Roger Dale Walters
February 28th, 1949 - July 16th, 2014
Roger Dale Walters, 65, died at his home in Charlotte, NC from sudden cardiac arrest on July 16, 2014. He was born Feb. 28, 1949 in Muskegon, MI to the late Frank and Lula Link Clark. After the death of his mother, Roger was adopted at age five by Kenneth C. Walters and Marcella Salinski Walters Cummings. Raised in St. Petersburg, FL, he graduated from St. Petersburg Jr. College with an Associate Degree in electronics. Roger was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, writer, cook and tech savvy. He loved to cook and treated his family and friends to delectable dishes for many years. His sense of humor, willingness to help and acts of kindness endeared him to his family and friends. After serving in the US Marines, his careers included cook, cable TV chief tech, underground cable construction supervisor and field service representative in the computer and copy industry. He was a past member of the Gallery Players in Burlington, NC where he met his wife, Wendy. Roger was webmaster for CharlotteMacWorkshop.org and developed many friendships through his love of Mac computers. His cookbook, "Sharing Recipes with Roger D", is available on Amazon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, ex-wife, Cheryl Ewing Gross and son, Jeremy A. Walters. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Wendy Hedgecock Walters, of the home; three children; Heather Walters Whigham and husband, William, of Gulf Shores, AL, Breeanne Walters Howe and husband, Benjamin, of Tega Cay, SC, Joshua Brent Walters and fiancé, Lisa Garrett of Charlotte, NC. Roger was also blessed with four grandchildren; Amelia (Mia), Abigail (Abby), Colin and Chloe Howe of Tega Cay, SC. His stepfather, Rev. Kenneth Cummings of St. Petersburg, FL also survives. Surviving siblings are Barbara Heykoop, Muskegon, MI; Penny West, Idaho and CA; Frank W. Clark, NC and FL; Marianne Walters Cary and husband, Michael, Brandon, FL; Kenneth Walters, Jr. and wife, Sherri of Tarpon Springs, FL. A memorial service to celebrate Roger's life will be held Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 3 pm in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, with Pastor Greg Martin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., the American Heart Assoc,. or a charity of the donor's choice.
