Mildred "Mickey" Dorfman Lyons, of Charlotte, age 92, died on December 28, 2013, beloved daughter of the late Nathan Dorfman and Esther Sherman Dorfman. Mickey graduated from high school at the age of 15 and Hunter College at the age 19, where she studied music. She was one of the very first women to work on Wall Street in NYC as a bank stock analyst in 1941. Later in life, given her deep love of music, Mickey was head of public relations for the Johnstown (PA) Symphony Orchestra for twenty years. In addition, Mickey founded "Invitation to Learning" in 1958, a school for high school level teachers, in Johnstown, PA. This school culled talented professors from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburg to train teachers in English literature, European history, music and modern dance. Mickey also sang in the Temple Choir at Beth Zion Temple where she was also the editor for twenty years of the Temple Bulletin. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross and at Presbyterian Hospital. Mickey is survived by her husband of 72 years, Bennett Lyons; son, Jeffrey S. Lyons and wife, Frances, all of Charlotte. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Andrew Lyons and wife, Courtney; Allison Neiss and husband, Aaron; Nancy Mann and husband, James; and Elizabeth Lyons; and three great-grandsons, Jack, Will and Sean. A funeral service for Mickey will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226. Interment will be private. Contributions in Mickey's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Ave., Charlotte, NC 28207; Charlotte Chapter of the American Red Cross, 2401 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28203 or to Jewish Family Services, 5007 Providence Rd., Suite 105, Charlotte, NC 28226.

The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
