Memorial

Mrs. Ok Soon Lee of Belchertown, Massachusetts passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2020 at Wing Memorial Hospital from cardiac arrest. She was 88 years old and was the last of eight siblings to pass away. She had been in declining health for a number of years. She was born in South Korea where she taught grade school before marrying and having four children. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1973 and settled in Western Massachusetts where her sister resided—the late Mrs. Mal S. Mainville, also of Belchertown. Mrs. Lee lived the American dream of hard work and creating opportunities for her children. She worked for many years in dry cleaning and factories, including James River Graphics, to support her family. Most importantly, she lived for and through her children who all went on to earn college degrees and to further education. She loved to garden and cook—plants and flowers always thrived under her care, and her cooking was loved by all. She was also a highly devout Christian and was an active member of the Korean-American Presbyterian Church of Amherst where she served as a church elder. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Byung Ho Lee; daughter Erica, a dermatologist in South Korea; son Hong, a math teacher and social worker; daughter Mia, an investment analyst; and eight grandchildren. Her elder son Si, a former university professor, predeceased her.
