Marie "Gigi" Ginette Gauvin
March 5th, 2019
Marie Ginette “Gigi” Gauvin peacefully passed away on March 5, 2019 at home with her family by her side. Born in Petit Goave, Haiti on November 5, 1959, Ginette was the devoted daughter of the late Marie Olga and Leonce Gauvin. Ginette is survived by her loving daughter, Katy Cox. Ginette will be fondly remembered by her 2 grandchildren Cayden and Kassidy Hayes. Ginette was a loyal and helpful sister to Surlette, Freda, Evelyne, Jean, Michelle, Kettely, Marie-Line, Olga, and Barbara. She was predeceased by her siblings Jacques, Marie Carmelle, and Serge. Ginette was an affectionate aunt to Magdalena, Mahalia, Michael, Lephterie, Naomi, Emmanuel, Asia, Paolini, Laurenzgo, Laurenee, Olvans, Kevans, Sebastien and Shelby . As a teenager and without yet knowing the English language, Ginette immigrated to the US in 1977. With the help of her extended family, she quickly learned the language, pursued her college education and started her successful career on Wall Street in the financial sector. In turn, Ginette facilitated and sponsored the immigration to the US of other family members and friends. She was proud of her Haitian heritage and constantly worked towards helping others as an interpreter and advocate for recent immigrants. She directly assisted regarding employment and housing. She informed people regarding organizations and services which could help them transition to the US and US citizenship. Ginette abhorred discrimination of any kind and would speak up and step in immediately if she witnessed an injustice. Ginette was energetic and outgoing. She had a wide circle of friends and an active social life. She loved live musical performances and dancing, among many other activities. She did everything with a flair, whether socializing with family and friends, experimenting with various spices from around the world to create delicious meals or having a spirited discussion. She spiced up all events with her lively personality and lit up a room with her bright eyes and beautiful smile. A celebration of Ginette’s life will be held at 2 pm, on Saturday March 16, 2019 at Advent Funeral & Cremation Services, 9013 Annapolis Road, Lanham, MD with Min. Marlene Gamble officiating.
