George "GK" Harrell

Biography Kernersville-George Kenneth "GK" Harrell, Jr., 83, passed away July 28, 2013. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 11:00AM Wednesday July 31, 2013 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Money officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery. A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Ethel Elizabeth Bishop and George K. Harrell, Sr. He graduated from Walkertown High School in 1948. He was retired from Spector Freight Lines, but continued to work at several jobs throughout his retirement. He enjoyed riding his bike around Salem Lake, breakfast at Bojangles, walking at Triad Park, but mostly enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family because of the love they gave him. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his sister Annie Williams. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years Mary Crawford Harrell of the home; daughters Susan Medley and Kenny, Penny Lawson, and Beth Melton all of Winston-Salem; sons Kenneth Harrell and Kathy of Kernersville, Tommy Harrell of Lexington, G.K. Harrell, III and Tanja of Germany; grandchildren Beth Neal, Sheryl Norris, Brooks Kirkman, Jennifer Austin, Kristina Laframboise, Ryan Melton, Tyler Melton, and Samantha Medley; great-grandchildren Cameron, Addalyne, Madison, and Charlie; sisters Janet Gamble and Ed of Kernersville, and Shirley Eakes and Jerry of Virginia; brother Paul Harrell and Margaret of Kernersville; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends from 6-8pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
