Harvey Hertz 85 of St. Pete Beach passed away August 16. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Harvey was born Nov. 22, 1928, son of the late Sue Brizel Danitz and Sam Danitz. He was a World War II Navy veteran who spent nearly all of his adult life in Florida, primarily in the investment industry. Harvey joined Raymond James & Associates in 1974 and served as head of its Syndicate Department for nearly 35 years. After retiring from Syndicate, Harvey turned his talent for stock picking into portfolio management for a select number of individual clients and continued actively managing his own account after retiring from Raymond James in 2004. Harvey also spent his last years concentrating on his philanthropies, generously supporting the Jewish National Fund by establishing the Harvey Hertz Ceremonial Tree Planting Center in Israel, Temple Beth El in St. Petersburg, Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services and the Florida Holocaust Museum, among others, He was honored for his charitable efforts and community service at the 2014 Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties' 8 Over 80 gala. Harvey is survived by his daughters, Donna (William) Shindelar of Osage, Iowa and Laura Anne (Martin) Bell of Gallatin Gateway, MT, as well as grandchildren William and Robert Shindelar and Reece Bell, a world-class Olympic-bound skier at the age of 12 who was sponsored primarily by her grandfather. A memorial service will be 11AM Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Temple Beth-El, 400 Pasadena Avenue South, St. Petersburg. A celebration of Harvey's life will also be held at the David C. Gross Funeral Home, 6366 Central Ave., St. Petersburg on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, Harvey requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Jewish National Fund, Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services and Temple Beth El. David C.
