Robert Joseph Hutchinson
September 23rd, 1943 - June 6th, 2018
It is with the deepest sadness that the family must announce the death of Robert "Bob" Hutchinson. Bob died unexpectedly after a head injury on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 while he was vacationing with his daughter and grandsons. Bob was an amazing man who lived life to its fullest. He was born on September 23, 1943, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to William and Audrey (Duclos) Hutchinson. He had a thirst for adventure from the beginning and shared stories of living in New Orleans, spending time traveling with family, independently exploring his world, spending time on shrimp boats owned by friends of the family, and sneaking in to see the Navy ships on the river. Bob loved speed and challenges. He began racing cars at a young age after his family moved to Indianapolis. His mother told stories and joked that he was the reason for some of the safety rules. Later he helped others stay safe and served on safety crews, where he was an asset due to his quick thinking and problem-solving skills. Bob also raced his sailboats in regattas. On land or water, he was known for his quick reflexes and fearlessness. Bob lived in Indianapolis until he retired as Senior Systems Analyst at Eli Lilly after thirty years of service. In his free time, he rode his motorcycle, competed in shooting competitions, traveled with his family, and became a certified firearms instructor. Bob retired and settled in The Villages where he discovered his love of golf and Disney World. He proudly displayed his Eagle and two Hole-in-One certificates. He loved to take his family to Disney, but nothing stopped him from also going alone. He was surrounded by great neighbors and dear friends. He was a devoted family man, loving father, and doting grandfather. He was a life-long learner with an adventurer's soul. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Sarah Hutchinson of Westfield, Indiana; grandsons, Alexander and Zachary Lafuse; siblings, William (Anges) Hutchinson, Ann (Edward) Williams, Marie (Robert) Amass, and Kay (Don) Eaton; nieces and nephews; extended family; and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Audrey Hutchinson.
