Dewey "Jack" Jackson Steele Jr.
August 11th, 1932 - April 11th, 2023
Dewey Jackson “Jack” Steele Jr., 90, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at his home in Greensboro, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 1:00pm at American Legion Cone Post 386 in Greensboro with interment to follow at 3:00pm at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Williams Steele, parents Dewey J. and Cora Mae Montgomery Steele, his sister Elizabeth Joanne Steele, and his brothers Rudolph Steele, Gerald Steele, and Sam Steele. He is survived by his brother Rev. Jim Steele (Peggy) of Boones Mill, VA, his sisters Doris Cranford of Myrtle Beach, SC and Sue Swaim (Marc) of Liberty, his four nieces, Emily, Karen, Amber, and Kelly, and his three nephews, Kevin, Mitch, and Matt, and their extended families. Mr. Steele was a graduate of Stokesdale High School and a veteran of the United States Army, serving at the Richmond Quartermaster Depot. He had a long career with Southern Bell (later Bell South and AT&T) installing and maintaining phone systems and later supervising a maintenance group in the Greensboro area, installing phone systems at Research Triangle Park, and delivering radiators in his retirement to shops across Western North Carolina. He was very active with the American Legion Cone Post 386 (the “bun man” on hot dog sale days) and was a member of the Greensboro Shrine Club and Revolution Masonic Lodge 552 AF & AM. He enjoyed many fishing trips and woodworking in his retirement and always had an interesting story to tell. Mr. Steele’s family would like to thank Mr. Doug Snead for his friendship and help in Jack’s last years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Cone Post 386, 1206 American Legion St, Greensboro, NC 27405.
