William Joseph Hargreaves

William (Bill) Joseph Hargreaves, Jr. passed away December 5, 2012 in Longmont, Colorado. He was 79, just 2 days shy of his 80th birthday. Bill was born December 7, 1932 in Teaneck, New Jersey to William Joseph Hargreaves, Sr and Annabella Patterson Dowd. Bill grew up in Bergenfield, New Jersey and graduated from Bergenfield High School. After graduating high school, Bill enlisted in the US Army and served in Salzburg, Austria during the Korean war. He married Valerie Valcourt on June 25, 1955 at All Saints Episcopal Church, Bergenfield, New Jersey. Bill was an engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ. He worked as an engineer on the Skylab program, on mining systems including mine cars and roof bolting, and on the Titan IV missile program. Bill was an avid bowler throughout his life and in his younger years he enjoyed backpacking and fishing. He was also a soccer player, coach and referee for the majority of his adult life. He was a volunteer at the Denver International Airport for over 13 years in the Traveler’s Assistance Program (TAP), helping travelers from around the world find their way around the airport and Denver. He was a member of St Timothy’s Episcopal Church and the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Valerie Valcourt. He is survived by his daughters Kellie Hargreaves of Longmont, CO; Kim Lamoreaux of Centennial, CO; Kyle Eledge of Council Bluffs, IA; a sister Jeremy Roosa of Jacksonville, FL; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is scheduled at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 1401 E. Dry Creek Road, Centennial, CO, 80122, Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or St Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
