Sue Williams Martin
September 1st, 1924 - March 4th, 2017
Sue Williams Martin, 92, of Lexington, South Carolina went home to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Carolina Gardens Lexington, South Carolina. She was born on September 1, 1924 in Grovetown, Georgia to the late John and Lillie Williams. Sue was strong in her Christian faith and was a charter member of Springdale Baptist Church where she served the community with her bible study class and worked especially with the literature program for the homebound members. She was always involved in a project of tending to her flower garden and her beautiful lawn. She was generous to a fault and would always help those around her when she could. She will be missed by those she loved and those that loved her. Sue is survived by daughters: Lynnette Bland (William), Gloria Hutchinson (Reg), sons: Grover Martin (Linda) and Larry Martin (Becky). She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren that will miss her. Sue is also survived by Mrs. Anna Epps whom she loved as a sister. She was preceded in death by her husbands: James Everette Rish and Grover C. Martin, an infant son James Everette Rish, Jr., three brothers and one sister. The family would like to express a very heartfelt thank you to her neighbors, especially Jane and Deleon Wallace for the kindness and help that has been given to her over the years and to Carolina Gardens and Comfort Care Hospice for their expert care. The family will receive friends at Springdale Baptist Church, 357 Wattling Rd, West Columbia, SC 29170 on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 1 PM until 2 PM. Funeral services will follow the visitation at the church with Reverend Tommy McGill officiating. Interment will be at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Street, West Columbia, SC 29172. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Springdale Baptist Church Library Fund.

We Entrusted Sue Martin's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
