Dee DeVries passed away on October 19th following a few month of dealing with cancer. She was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, where she enjoyed a very happy, carefree girlhood invluding times spend with her Tuscan-Italian grandmother who encouraged her to lean the Italian language which she found useful on her many travels and time spent in Italy. Her parents provided her with many years of summer camping with the Campfire Girls in northern Michigan. Her father, who was a bugle boy in WWI, taught her the bugle calls and gave her his bugle which she then played at camp! Leaving her happy girlhood behind, she earned her Bachelor's degree in English at Michigan State University, and did graduate sudies after moving to Colorado in 1965. Her affiliation with Kappa Alpha Theta sorority continued to be meanngful in the close friendships she enjoyed throughout her life. She was married 42 years to Arrorney Richard B. Bauer who passed away earlier. She is survived by their three children, David L. Bauer, Peter M. Bauer and Cathy Pennington who along with her eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren have brough her much happiness. Her major interests included participating in musical productions in high school, college and community theater, concerts, world affairs, politics, reading and travel whish she shared and encouraged with her family. FOr sever years she taught English in LIttleton Middle schools. Her volunteer interests included the American Red Cross, Swedish Hospital Pink Lady, Chaplain's Assistant at Littleton Adventist Hospital, and many years as a Guild member of the Central City Opera..She helped with the Education Programs at Hudson Gardens. She was definately a "people person", easliy making friends and bringing people together. In 1999, she married David F. DeVries who has given her great joy, comfort, caring and companionship. They have travelled widely spending quality time mostly in Europe, and wintering in Mexico. Their later years have found them living at Wind Crest where they continued to be actively engaged in many activities, and finding life very enriching. A celebration of her life will be helt at a later date at Wind Crest Senior Living with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Dee would appreviate a donation to one of her favorite charities Boys Town or The Denver Rescue Mission.
