James Nelson
July 23rd, 1951 - January 16th, 2018
Jim L. Nelson, 66, of Greeley died unexpectedly on January 16, 2018. He was born July 23, 1951 at Weld County Hospital to Lloyd Carl Gilbert and Helen Annette (Large) Nelson. He was educated at Maplewood Grade School, Heath Junior High and Greeley Central High School, graduating in 1969. He went on to the University of Colorado-Boulder and the University of Northern Colorado before joining the family business, Nelson Office Supply. Jim was the general manager when the business was sold in 2009. He most recently enjoyed his time with the U.S. Census Bureau. Jim was a past president of the Greeley Centennial Rotary Club and a two time recipient of the Rotarian of the year. Jim and Diane Pascale were married in 1977 and they were both very active in Rotary basketball tournaments, bridge groups and community service. After Diane’s death, he married Marsha Biddle in 2004. They enjoyed theatre and the arts, serving on various non-profit boards, Rotary and family activities. He is survived by his wife, Marsha; mother-in-law, Nettie Biddle; stepson, Travis (Molly) Shew and grandchildren, Tom and Jack; sisters, Jo Ann (Jud) McDowell and Marilyn Sherman; brother, Douglas (Sue) Nelson as well as seven nieces and nephews and their children and a sister-in-law, Elyce Biddle. Jim had many coffee buddies and good friends, among them Steve Wilson who he met on Monday evenings for 45 years. He was also devoted to his three dogs; Paco, Maxwell and Sampson. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2018 at Adamson and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Church, followed by the service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service with burial at 2 p.m. at the Johnstown Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the "Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra” or "Weld Humane Society” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Friends may leave condolences at adamsoncares.com.
