Lonnie Ray Tuma
June 14th, 1948 - November 23rd, 2009
Lonnie Ray Tuma, 61, of Greeley died Monday, November 23, 2009 in the Hospice Inpatient Unit at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born June 14, 1948 in Alliance, Nebraska to Jack and Beulah (Fisher) Tuma. The family moved to Wellington, CO during his early years where Lonnie attended school, graduating from Ft. Collins High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in November of 1971. Lonnie worked for Pueblo Chemical as a truck driver. On June 22, 1990 he married Dawna Brunner in Greeley. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and he especially enjoyed fishing. His fascination with the freedom of an eagle in flight fueled his interest in collecting eagle items. He was a generous and kind-hearted man and had a great sense of humor. He always had a positive outlook on life. Even during his illness he was strong and didn’t complain and was an inspiration to those around him. Lonnie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Greeley. He leaves behind his wife, Dawna Tuma of Greeley; sons, Monty Tuma and wife Sheila of Greeley, Marvin Tuma of Frederick, CO, and Tyler Brunner of Greeley; brothers, Roger Tuma and wife Anne of Evans, CO, Jack Tuma of Texas, Rick Tuma of Oregon; and step-brothers, Allen Dorsey of Arizona and Stanley Dorsey of Evans, CO. He is also survived by father and mother-in-law, Butch and Zelda Brunner of Greeley; sister-in-law, Sherrie Jerke and husband John of Texas; brother-in-law Mike McNulty and wife Judy of LaSalle, CO; his best friend Marvin Wilson of Greeley; and his beloved dog and TV watching partner, Angel .He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Linda and Judy. Lonnie’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Thompson, the nurses at NCMC, the staff at University Hospital and the Infusion Clinic for the skillful and loving care given to Lonnie. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2515 W. 16th Street in Greeley. Memorial contributions may be made to "Lonnie Tuma Memorial Fund” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue Greeley, CO 80634.
