Ella Kathryn Heitman, 87, of Platteville passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018. She was born September 10, 1931 in Monmouth, Illinois to Jack and Kathryn (Stitt) McCrery where she grew up. She came to Colorado to attend Colorado State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics; and met her husband, Ronald Heitman. They married on September 10, 1952 in Monmouth. The couple moved to Ron’s family farm in Fort Lupton, raised their family, and in 1978 moved to their farm in Platteville. Ella began teaching Home-Economics at North Jr. High in Brighton and later Overland Trail Middle School; and instilled Life Skills to thousands of students over 32 years. She earned a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and concluded her teaching career retiring in 1996. Ella was a 64-year member of Eastern Star, Fort Vasquez Chapter, NSDAR officer and member; 4-H leader; an active member of First Christian Church, Greeley; part of the Top O’ Morning Garden Club in Platteville; and belonged to a Tuesday morning breakfast group whose ladies cherished one another’s friendships. She was a positive individual sharing her beautiful smile and personality with others. Her interests were cooking and baking, sewing, reading, playing cards and most of all enjoying time with her family and friends. We know life is a journey with a destination made certain by faith. Ella’s faith was complete and so now is her reward. Her reflection lives on in those who knew her. Thankful to have shared her life include her daughters; Colleen Heitman, Pamela (Mark) Mathisen and Ronell Heitman, three grandchildren; Morgan (Brittany) Mathisen, Miranda Mathisen and Mitchell (Crystal) Mathisen as well as 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, parents and brother, Larry McCrery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 20 at the Adamson Chapel with funeral services to follow on Friday, September 21 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church. A reception will follow with interment to be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton. Memorial gifts may be made to the "First Christian Church” or "Shriner’s Children’s Hospital” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
