Elmer George Foss

Elmer George Foss, 81, of Greeley, Colorado died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado. He was born August 19, 1929 in Ault to George and Dolly (Bruntz) Foss. Elmer grew up and attended school in Ault and Galeton. On December 3, 1950 he married Luella Lind in Greeley. From 1951 – 1953 he served in the U.S. Army as a tank driver and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. After his military service, he began farming in Galeton. Elmer was a former member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church which he helped construct and was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He retired from farming in 1987 and began working for Weld County and retired from the county in 1996. Elmer enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sporting events when they were young and he was very proud of them. One who never met a stranger, Elmer was well liked and respected by those who knew him. His family will remember him as a loving and faithful husband, father and grandpa. He is survived by his wife Luella Foss of Greeley; sons, Eric Foss of Beverly Hills, CA, Craig Foss of Bakersfield, CA, and Brian Foss and wife Vivian of Eaton, CO; grandsons, Darin and Jared Foss both of Eaton; brother, Edwin Foss of Gill, CO and a sister, Dorothy Mezzacappa of Clovis, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joel Foss and a brother, Robert Foss. Services include visitation from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Adamson Chapel and funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3000 35th Avenue in Greeley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to "Trinity Lutheran Church” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue Greeley, CO 80634. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Burn Unit and ICU staff members at NCMC and the Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital for the superior care and genuine concern for Elmer.
