Richard Eugene Hankel
May 2nd, 1933 - January 9th, 2024
Richard Eugene Hankel, 90, of Greeley passed away on January 9, 2024 at The Lodge. He was born to Phillip and Mary Elizabeth (Huwa) Hankel in Windsor on May 2, 1933. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1951 and served in the US Army before receiving an Honorable Discharge. On September 16, 1953 he married Ruby Ann Reichel in Greeley, sharing 67 years before she passed away October 8, 2020. Richard was a farmer at heart and farmed many years before moving to Greeley in 1980 where he went to work for the City of Greeley in the Street Department before his retirement. He loved all things cars! He was very mechanical, loved to drag race, won many trophies and had a vast collection of die cast models. He loved to fish, go camping, ride his Honda 90’s on the trails and they also traveled, played cards with friends and danced many Polka and Dutch Hops. Richard was a member of the Good Times Car Club, Farmers Union and St. John’s UCC. He is survived by his daughters; Sharon Kahl, Sandy (Rex) Rhoads, and Susan (Greg) Hopper, seven grandchildren; Daina (Fred), Sarah (Dominic), Brandon (Megan) Dylan, Brandy (Ben), Phillip and Stevie, eight great-grandchildren; Brianna (Garret), Devon, Adrian (Kaylee), Lauryn, Maren, Callum, Walker and Wyatt, and one great, great-grandchild, Weston. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Steve and a son-in-law, Jerry Kahl. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Adamson. Richard’s Life Celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Adamson with a reception to follow. Interment 2:00 p.m. at the Eaton Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to “St. John’s UCC” or “Calvary Chapel Greeley” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Condolences may be shared at AdamsonCares.com.
