Richard James Preston

Richard J. Preston was born in Owosso, Michigan on November 21, 1921 and died March 25, 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina Richard was the son of Lillian Steadman Preston and William B Preston and brother to Charles Wilbur Preston and Franklin August Preston He married Sidonia (Sally) Mary Polacek on September 17, 1945 and they had three children, Richard Carl Preston (Rondy) of Lansing, Michigan, Cynthia Ann Shortall of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Jane Preston of Burton, Michigan and his beloved grandson, Matthew Preston Shortall of Charlotte, NC He was also a proud Grandpa to Alyssa Morillo Scheidt (Manuel); Amy Scheidt Flourry (Galen) and Adam Scheidt (Kathy) and great Grandpa to Megan Flourry, Ella Flourry, Isabel Morillo, Ruben Morillo, Olivia Scheidt and Thomas Scheidt. Anyone who knew him, knew his passion was golf. He played as often as he could and especially loved playing with his grandson, Matt. One of the best days of his life (and Matt's) was when they played Pebble Beach for his 90th birthday and Matt's 30th birthday. That day and the years he spent in California were very good years for him. He also loved his Carolina Panthers and proudly wore his Jake Delhomme jersey and Panther hat for every game. Richard proudly served his country in World War II as a Sergeant in the US Army Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1945. Special thanks go out to his very close friends, Trudy Choate of Pineville, NC and Christine Nepodal of Martinez, California. We would also like to thank Hospice of Charlotte and the staff of Brighton Gardens. One of the last things he said was that he loved it there because everyone was so good to him. He was predeceased by Sidonia (Sally) Preston and Charles Preston A service in his memory will be held in Owosso, Michigan at a later date.
