John Charles Griffin
March 12th, 1920 - March 8th, 2015
John Charles Griffin, age 94, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Sunset Ridge in Johnson Creek with his daughters by his side. John was born on March 12, 1920 in Jefferson, to Raymond and Marcella (Seeber) Griffin, and married Fannie Ives on June 12, 1954. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and graduated from Jefferson High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. John worked for the City of Jefferson Water and Light Department and blew the noon whistle for many years. John was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and sang in the adult choir. He loved all children, especially his grandchildren. He would frequently be seen pulling the grandkids in the red wagon to the park. John was a quiet, loving man, and will be remembered by his family as a selfless, person with great patience. He always thought of his family and others first, never asking of anything for himself. John loved caring for his grandchildren. As the time came that John needed care for himself, he never wanted to be a burden or a bother, and could often be heard responding to caretakers with ?Okeedokee. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years Fannie, and his children Sally (Mike) Drew of Jefferson, Jane (Elgin) Lumby of Oconomowoc, James (Lori) Griffin of Fort Atkinson, and Sue (Mike) Johann of Jefferson. He is further survived by his eleven grandchildren Joshua and Nicholas Drew; Kristina and Brandon (Krissy) Lumby; William, Melissa, and Christopher (Kayla) Griffin; John Garity, Becky (Mike) Nordness, Elise (Matt) Coffelt, and Kelly Johann; and his five great grandchildren Everett Lumby; Cole, Peyton, and Emma Nordness; and Isabelle Coffelt; his sister in law Joyce Griffin, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Raymond Griffin, Norbert ?Coley Griffin, Howard Griffin, and his sister Margaret Torgerson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 13, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Church in Jefferson, with visitation from 10:30am-12:00 noon. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Those wishing to express sympathy through donations may direct them to St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Jefferson or Rainbow Hospice in John?s memory. John?s family wishes to express a special thank you to Sunset Ridge in Johnson Creek and Rainbow Hospice for their wonderful care, love and compassion.
