Robert W. Snyder
January 1st, 1925 - September 14th, 2013
Mr. Robert W. Snyder, 88 years old, of Ireland Avenue, died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born January 5, 1925 in Ft. Johnson, a son of Orville and Anna Frank Snyder and was a lifelong resident of the area. Bob served his country with the U.S. Navy during WW2. He was stationed on the USS Amsbury and the USS Gering and was part of the D-day invasion force. Bob was employed by Breton Industries of Amsterdam for 31 years. He was a member of The United Methodist Church, a founding member, officer and Director of the Tribes Hill Fish and Game Club, served as Road Commissioner and as a Trustee for the village of Ft. Johnson and was a Director for 40 years with the village Youth Commission. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. On June 28, 1953 he married the former Shirley Bowler of Tribes Hill, who survives. Bob is also survived by his brother Edward Snyder of Tribes Hill, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Tuesday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with The Rev. Jerry Kauffman officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 until 7:00pm Monday at the funeral home Memorial contributions may be made: Tribes Hill Fish & Game Club Scholarship Fund at F.M.C.C., The Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Or The Ft. Johnson Volunteer Fire Dept.
