Marcella I. Atkinson

Mrs. Marcella I. Boyd Atkinson, 85, of Scenic Drive, Hagaman, passed away on November 10, 2011 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. She was born in Amsterdam on December 29, 1925 a daughter of the late Francis H. and Ola Springer Boyd. Mrs. Atkinson was a life long resident of the area and attended schools in Amsterdam having graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1945. She married Frederick E. Atkinson on March 10, 1946 in Jacksonville Beach, FL. Marcella worked for over 22 years at Adirondack Knitting Mill as a Creeler retiring in the 1980's. She was a member of the Calvary Reformed Church and the Hagaman Seniors for over 25 years. She was Past-President of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, Jiggsaw puzzles, collecting cardinals and traveling. Marcella and her husband traveled all over the world to places such as Luxemburg, Yellowstone National Park, Hawaii, England and California. They spent winters in Florida, and even traveled cross-country in an RV. She was a homemaker and took great care of her children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all. Survivors include her daughter, Edith Edward Schiedel of Amsterdam, NY, two sons, Neal Atkinson of Hagaman and Roger Sharon Atkinson of Hagaman, two grandsons, Russell Roxanne Atkinson of North Carolina and Darren Atkinson of Hagaman. One brother, Stanley Boyd of Hagaman and a sister, Norma Boyd Henderson of Clifton Park, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Atkinson on December 24, 2007 and a brother, Robert Boyd. Funeral Services will be at 7:00PM on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam with Rev. Charles Hesselink officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the services on Monday evening November 14, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Wednesday November 16, 2011. Contributions in Marcella's memory may be made to Calvary Reformed Church, 10 Church St., Hagaman, 12086.
