James W. Gavin
February 23rd, 1953 - April 3rd, 2011
Mr. James W. Gavin, 58, of State Highway 29, Johnstown, NY died peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Ellis Hospital following a long illness. Born on February 23, 1953 he was the son of James Gavin and Ruth Dufel Gavin. A lifelong area resident, Jim was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He was employed by IBEW Local #1249 as a foreman. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and painting. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his father James in 1993 and his sister Ann Miner in 1990. Survivors include mother, Ruth Gavin of Johnstown, NY; his children, James Gavin and wife Erin with one child on the way, of Monroe, NY and Nichole Klena and husband Neil of Johnstown and their children Griffin and Ashley Klena, four brothers: Daniel Jeannette of West VA, Michael Sherry of VA, John Shannon of Holland Patent, NY and Mark Susan of NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 11 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5 until 7p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Rd, Gloversville, NY 12078.
