Christopher Sanchez

Christopher Sanchez, 61, of Lefferts Street, passed away Sunday evening at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness. Born in the Bronx, NY, on April 30, 1949, he was the son of the late Pedro and Carmen Jimenez Sanchez. Chris moved to Amsterdam in 1986. Chris was employed at the YMCA in Scotia for a number of years until retiring in 2005 due to ill health. He enjoyed going to OTB and the Saratoga Track. Chris was an avid Mets fan. On November 30, 1968, he married the former Raquel Gonzalez. Besides his wife of 42 years, he is survived by three sons, Christopher Sanchez Jr. of Amsterdam, Danny Sanchez of Guilderland and David Sanchez of Amsterdam; a daughter, Lucille Battis of Kissimmee, FL; two sisters, Antonia Sanchez Caraballo of the Bronx and Elizabeth Carderon of Staten Island; ten grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Chris was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Sanchez who passed away in 1989. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 4 to 7pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A funeral service will commence at 6pm that evening with the Rev. Enrique Rincon officiating. Burial will take place on Saturday at 11am at Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam.
