Mildred Varney, 81, a resident of Liberty Enterprises' Old Trail Road home, Fonda, NY, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning August 12, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Corinth, NY on August 3, 1927 a daughter of Edward B. and Rachel Pickett Varney. She was a resident with Liberty since 1990 and resided at the Old Trail Road Home since 1994. She took part in Liberty's day treatment program in Amsterdam. Mildred loved children and music and had a great sense of humor. She was very feisty and had a lot of spunk that she showed her Liberty caregivers. Her Liberty family was very important to her as well as her brother, Robert and sister, Ruthie. Mildred was one of ten children. She was of the Christian faith. Survivor's include one sister, Ruthie Varney. Her housemates at Old Trail Road, Diana, Irene, Lucy, Danny, Kathy, Anita, Clifford, Doug, Gary, Randy and Tommy along with her extended Liberty family. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death this past year by a brother Robert Varney. Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 14th, 2008 at 1:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Rev. Cynthia Leonard presiding. Interment will be in Corinth Rural Cemetery on Friday. A Calling period will begin at 12:00Noon on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
