January 16th, 1919 - May 10th, 2008
Mrs. Lula D. Smith, 89, of Center Street, Fort Plain passed away peacefully Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home. A lifelong area resident, she was born on January 16, 1919 in the Town of Palatine the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Luck Peeler. Lula was a woman who dedicated herself to her family and her home. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. On May 6, 1939 she was united in marriage to Wagner Smith. That union lasted nearly 48 years until his passing on February 5, 1987. She was also predeceased by her daughter and son in law, Lavina and Donald Smith; and her siblings, Harriet Smith and Ruben Peeler. Her loving family includes, her son LaVerne "Whitey" Smith and his wife Barbara of Fort Plain; three grandchildren, Jeffery Smith and his wife Rebecca of Fort Plain, Donald Smith and his wife Barbara of Fairport and Tina Gallt and her husband Lester of Fort Plain; six great grandchildren, Justin and Ashley Smith, Kiesha and Kristen Harrington, Kyle and Korie Calhoun; and one great great granddaughter, Gabriella. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service of remembrance on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 3 o'clock at the Fort Plain Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
