Maxine Valentin
December 17th, 1937 - September 14th, 2006
Mrs. Maxine Valentin, 68 years old of Swan Street, died Thursday at her home. Mrs. Valentin was born December 17, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of Samuel and Esther Roth. Maxine moved to Amsterdam 15 years ago where she had since resided. Mrs. Valentin operated a restaurant in Brooklyn that featured Puerto Rican cuisine. While in Amsterdam she worked for the Office for the Aging and for the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce retiring in 2002. She spoke three languages fluently and was adept at sign language. Mrs. Valentin was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam. She was an active volunteer in the Amsterdam Community and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Her first husband, Carmelo Serra died many years ago. Her husband Edward Valentin survives. Also surviving are two sons, David Santiago of Brooklyn and Carmelo Serra, Jr. of Amsterdam; three daughters, Geraldine and Maltida Santiago of Puerto Rico, and Barbara Serra of Amsterdam; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Burial will be in Chuctanunda Cemetery, Minaville. There will be no prior calling hours.
