Carmella R. Oropallo
March 14th, 1931 - February 26th, 2020
Mrs. Carmella Rose Oropallo, 88, formerly of Lincoln Avenue died peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Born on March 14, 1931 she was the last living child of the late Samuel and Melena Riso Bursese. A lifelong city resident, Carmella attended local schools. Her first job was as a switch board operator for the telephone company. She also worked as a legal secretary, activities assistant at Park Hill Adult Home and worked at the Tecler Elementary School after school program. Her number one priority was her family, whom she loved dearly. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her two husbands, William Mahar and Francis Oropallo and her siblings; Lawrence Bursese, Lena Alessi and Helen Rowan. Survivors include her 14 children, Michael (Debbie) Oropallo, Francis Oropallo, Russell (Dorene) Mahar, Thomas Oropallo, Theresa (Gary) Sorensen, Catherine (Chet) Saj, Mary Beth (Dean) Manderson, Timothy (Rose) Oropallo, Patricia Smith, Stephen Oropallo, Ann Marie (Peter) Alteri, Patrick Oropallo, Margaret (Kurt) Semon, Mark (Holly) Oropallo. 26 Grandchildren include; Crystal Jones, Courtney Gray, Matthew Oropallo, Amanda Bearcroft, Kyle Mahar, Corey Dufel, Carley Green, Christopher Saj, Caitlyn Pawlikowski, Lauren Manderson, Brandon Manderson, Tim Oropallo Jr., Allison Oropallo, Elizabeth Daratsos, Madeline Smith, Maura Smith, Hans Oropallo, Stephen Oropallo, Daniel Alteri, Victoria Alteri, Zachariah Alteri, Veronica Alteri, Thomas Semon, Samuel Semon, Logan Oropallo, Luke Oropallo. Also 13 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff of the 4th floor of St Marys Hospital, Hospice and all the staff at Hillcrest Spring Assisted Living for the loving care provided while she resided there. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 11a.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 2 until 5p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home.
