Lois Jean Forbes

Lois “Jean” Forbes, 93, formerly of 13 McElwain Ave., Amsterdam, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Wells House Nursing and Rehabilitation in Johnstown. Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 23, 1928 the daughter of Charles and Thea Bush Habla. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Jean was employed for her career for the New York State Taxation and Finance Department in Albany, NY from 1970 and retiring in 1995. She was of the Roman Catholic Faith and was a communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. Jean married her high school sweetheart, Robert W. Forbes, on August 7, 1949. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before he passed away on December 11, 2015. Jean enjoyed with her husband square dancing, playing tennis for years and later on playing pickle ball. During the winter months for many years she loved downhill skiing with her family and friends up until she turned 80. She and her husband traveled all over and even got to ski over in Europe. Jean is survived by her three loving children, Dale Twardzik, Jeffrey Forbes and Jill Rogers, all of Amsterdam. Six Grandchildren, Timothy (Kristen) Twardzik, Broadalbin; Shauna (Jason) Twardzik-Heine, Denver, CO (currently living in New Zealand); Erik (Krysten) Forbes, Tribes Hill; Jessica (Garret Schrom) Forbes, Gloversville; Brandon (Victoria) Rogers, Amsterdam; Amber (Omer) Gonullu, Guilderland. Eleven great-grandchildren, Daisie & Triton Twardzik, Priya & Tula Twardzik-Heine, Julianna, Madilyn & Avalon Forbes, Jackson Schrom, Leyla, Kamelya & Ayla Gonullu. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson, NY.
