We have all lost a special and fun-loving person with the sudden passing of Arthur “Artie” Brustein, 69, of Syracuse. He was married 25 years to Rosanne Suskin, as they found each other in mid-life to become, as one, true life partners. A graduate of Nottingham High School, Artie was a natural born entrepreneur with many talents. He had excellent culinary skills, worked in construction, proudly drove his Brockway truck, and was well-known for Artie’s Limousine Service and Artie’s Taxi-Sedan Service. He owned an array of unique cars, Excalibur limo, Corvette stretch limo, convertible limo, 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II, and his pride and joy: his 1977 yellow Checker Cab that he refurbished. He enjoyed attending car shows and won many first-place plaques. Other hobbies included working out and staying fit, biking, walking, and traveling over the years. Artie was a kind, patient, and devoted husband, son, brother, and friend. He watched over and cared for his mother Iola, who recently passed at the age of ninety-nine and one half. Artie kept his mom home, going there day and night to care for her. Prior to the loss of his mother, him and his wife shared caretaking responsibilities, even prior to their marriage. Helping with Rosanne’s father and grandfather, and caring for her mother, Artie was always there for family. He was generous and loved beyond words. Artie emulated the saying, “actions speak louder than words”, for everyone who was a part of his world. When someone had a need, he always made the time. He embodied a great sense of humor, spreading laughter to adults and children alike. All his friends shared that “time spent together was filled with laughter and jokes”. One friend mentioned that Artie told him to learn to do jokes and have fun in life. His love for children was the fun-loving kid within himself. He was like an uncle to so many. Artie was truly a positive light in this world. He will be dearly missed. His sister Lana said it best: “His absence is heartbreaking. He was OUR rock.” He was predeceased by his parents, Iola R. and Meyer Brustein and his in-laws, Robert and Rose Suskin. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosanne; his sister, Lana Banbury; uncle, Marvin H. Ribyat; many extended family members. Calling hours will be Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 3 to 5PM at A. Dewitt Memorial Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. Services will follow at 5PM, at the funeral home. The public is welcome to attend. COVID restrictions will apply.
