Carol Louise Schutz Carol was born to Robert and DeVee Skinner on July 28th, 1940 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She passed away on April 19, 2019 at home in Arvada, Colorado. Soon after her birth she moved with her parents to Vinton, Iowa where she spent her youth. After high school she attended Iowa State University where she received a degree in child development. While in college she met her husband Fred Schutz. They were married in 1962 and after finishing college they moved to Arvada, Colorado. She taught kindergarten for the next four years until their son was born in 1968. A few years later their daughter was born and Carol spent the next several years as a loving mother raising her family. During those years she enjoyed family activities of camping and fishing with the neighborhood group, family vacations, car trips, youth sports and school activities. Carol enjoyed helping others. She was quite active volunteering with various organizations throughout the Denver area. She also became interested in family history and extensively researched her mother's family and wrote a family history book on the Cherry family. In 1985 she became the office manager of her husband's business and continued this until 2003 when she retired. After taking some pottery classes, she started doing hand sculpted small pottery pieces which evolved into a small business. Many of her pieces were story tellers with many children gathered around someone telling them stories. She very much liked children and enjoyed having them around. During retirement she enjoyed several cruises with her husband and some other couples. She is survived by her husband Fred, her son Scott Schutz (Bonnie), her daughter Cindy Nitzsche (Perry), her granddaughters Nichole Schutz, and Danielle Hoag and her sister- in- law Marilyn Schutz. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday April 30th at Arvada United Methodist Church at 6750 Carr St. In lieu of flowers any contributions can be made to the church.
