William “Jay” McCowen was born November 12, 1951, in Eugene, Oregon to Marjorie Peltier and John Henry who were married on February 18, 1932.

Jay died July 19, 2024, in Eugene, Oregon after a brave and hard fight against Cancer.  He was a very caring and loving person to all around him and always willing to help all in need.

He married Marilee Wakeman on March 23, 1996, in Jasper, Oregon. His blended family included 3 sons and 2 daughters. They are Rena Dunne, Troy McCowen, James Kubli III, Michael Kubli and Melissa Kubli. 

He worked in many fields including Mill worker, Garbage Service, and building motor homes for Country Coach.

Jay attended Pleasant Hill high School and went on to Lane Community College, where he graduated with a Certificate in Motor Home Repair, Service, Mechanical and Electrical Installation. 

Jay was a Jack-of-all-Trades and was extremely creative.  He enjoyed woodworking, boating, swimming, gardening, Ducks football/ basketball/ soccer as well as camping, horse-back riding, dancing and reading. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, but he enjoyed his family time the best of all!

He is survived by his wife Marilee, his sister Sue, and his children James, Michael, Melissa, Rena and Troy.  He has many grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents Marjorie and John and his siblings Charles, Jean and Pat.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
