Betty Jean Turner
October 22nd, 1939 - July 30th, 2024
In Loving Memory
Betty Jean Turner, 84, of Irmo, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024.
Born October 22, 1939, in Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late Fulton and Lola McCombs. At a young age her family moved from Laurens County to Columbia. During her formative years she worked in the food service industry, and as an inspector for Arvis Camera and Shakespeare.
In the late 60’s, Jean married the love of her life Ken Turner. Together with their three children, they lived in Germany as well as Washington State while Ken served in the US Army. In 1979, they settled back in Columbia. Her favorite job was being a wife, mother and grandmother and she spent many years making this her priority. As her children grew older, she went on to work at Sandel Elementary and St. Andrews Middle School as a cafeteria worker. Later in life, Jean was employed at D.L. McLaughlin’s until she stopped working in 2006. Jean loved her family dearly. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She instilled the importance of family to all she met. She never met a stranger.
She is survived by a daughter, Caroline “Missy” Bundrick of Lexington; ten grandchildren, David Turner (Carli), Tommy Turner (Rebecca), Crystal Bartlett (Hunter), Brittany Bailey (Ken), Kristen Hale (Daniel), Steven Turner (Kayla), Dalton Turner (Haley), Layla Turner, Alyssa Ashline, Timothy Puckett (Kayla); and twenty-four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Turner; her son, Kenneth Dwayne Turner; her daughter, Sheila Marie Turner; and her nine siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 3rd, at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington. Pastor David Turner will be officiating. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gruder Wilson, DJ Lambert and Ricky Sipes.
Anyone who wishes to honor Jean, the family respectfully requests donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605, in lieu of flowers.
