Harold Sanders
June 5th, 1935 - August 3rd, 2024
Harold Sanders departed this life on August 3, 2024. Harold was born June 5, 1935. He was the fourth of ten (10) children born to the late Gus Sanders, Jr. and Francener Johnson Sanders in Union, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Timothy Sanders and three beloved sisters, Ellen Sanders, Ruth Swint and Yvonne McCoy. Harold was a 1954 graduate of Withrow High School in Cincinnati, OH. Harold was drafted into the United States Army in 1958 where he served for two (2) years in Korea and finished his assignment in 1960. He began his civilian life by returning home in 1960 to Cincinnati, Ohio working at General (Kraft) Foods. He was later promoted to Distribution Manager where he was transferred to multiple states. In 1971 he was transferred to Indianapolis, IN then to Chicago, IL in 1975 and then to Jacksonville, FL in 1977 where he retired 1990 after 30 years of service. After his relocation to Tampa, Harold worked part time at Tampa Tribune Newspaper from 2003 – 2017, until the Tribune closed. In 1966 Harold became the father of a beautiful baby girl, Erma Pauline Sanders, the joy of his life. In 1980 Harold met his love Joyce Freeman Warner and their courtship began for seven (7) years. On January 3, 1987 Harold and Joyce continued their love story by becoming husband and wife. Their blended family was his greatest joy and blessing. After relocating to Jacksonville, Harold joined The Big Brother Big Sister Organization where he was connected with 9 year old, Kenneth (Kenny) Jackson. It was an immediate connection between the two of them; their close bond continued until Harold’s transition. Harold began his spiritual journey at First Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. When he relocated to Jacksonville, FL, he united with Mt Calvary Baptist Church where he served faithfully. He was a dedicated member of the Brotherhood Ministry and also served as leader of the Finance Ministry. In 1994 Harold was ordained as Deacon Harold Sanders in Mt Calvary Baptist Church. Excited grandparents-to-be, Harold and Joyce moved to Tampa, Florida in 2003 to be closer to their granddaughters. In 2003 Harold and Joyce joined Bible-Based Fellowship Church (BBFC). Dr. Anthony C. White is currently serving as the Lead Pastor. Harold served as a member of the First Friends Ministry; a member of the S.A.G.E. (Seniors Aging with Grace and Excellence) Ministry in addition to being a member of the Bible Based Fellowship Mass Choir. Harold loved his BBFC Church Family. Harold was an avid Bridge player and was a member of the American Bridge Association where he won multiple championships/trophies. Harold loved to cook, travel and play Bid Whist. Harold is survived by His loving and faithful wife, Joyce Freeman Sanders; Daughter, Erma Pauline Sanders Diamond (Tom), Sarasota, FL; Son, Andrew Reynolds Warner, Jr. (JoLynn), Wesley Chapel, FL; Two Granddaughters, Avery Alexis Warner and Ashtyn Alivia Warner; Sisters, Bernice Daniels, New Rochelle, NY; Eileen Harris, Cincinnati, OH; Norma Wellman, Atlanta, GA; Rovena Dunn, Cincinnati, OH; Brother Gregory Sanders, Maryland; and a host of loving Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Caring Friends.
