John Arnold Heuvelman III, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 25, 2024. Born in Chicago, Illinois on December 23, 1945, John lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to the end. He touched many people’s lives both personally and professionally and truly dedicated his life to helping and healing people from all walks of life.
John graduated from Carl Schurz High School in Chicago where he was an accomplished athlete. During his time there he was an all-city champion in wrestling and helped the football team win the all-city championship. He accepted a scholarship to play football for the University of Arizona. While at the U of A he studied and played hard, graduating from college in 1967. He graduated with a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Work) degree and earned a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1975. He worked in many areas of mental health and rehabilitation, eventually opening his private practice in 2003. He fell in love with the beautiful state of Arizona and called Tucson home for the past 60 years.
His life was full of adventure and he enjoyed the beauty of the great outdoors. He was an avid hiker, fisherman, hunter, biker, and skier. These activities allowed him to make many lasting memories with family and friends. He also was a man with many passions and hobbies including tending to and caring for his bonsai collection, appreciating jazz music and poetry. Throughout his life time he created a beautiful sanctuary in his yard where he spent much of his time over the last couple of years.
John is survived by his lovely wife Rosa, his son Jason Heuvelman, and sister Diane Abendroth (Curtis). He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Florence Heuvelman and daughter Natasha. The family will host a celebration of John’s life in October.
