Sharon Katherine Zimmer
June 12th, 1941 - September 15th, 2024
Sharon Katherine (Becker) Zimmer, 83, of Colorado Springs, CO, was surrounded by her family as she passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, September 15th, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, Sept 30, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, with a rosary at 10:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
Born in Langdon, ND, on June 12, 1941, Sharon was the third of four children to William and Esther (Peterson) Becker. She graduated in 1959 from Perham High School in Perham, MN, and went on to study nursing in Rochester, MN.
After graduating from nursing school in 1960, she moved to Fargo, ND, and soon thereafter to Colorado Springs, taking a job at Penrose Hospital. It was here she met the love of her life, Eugene Zimmer, and the two were married July 25, 1966, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perham. Their marriage was blessed with five children.
Sharon continued working as a nurse until the birth of her first child, after which she dedicated her life to family. In 1996, Sharon entered another joyful season of her life as she became Nana to the first of her 25 grandchildren. She became a great grandmother in July 2024.
An avid tennis player, skier, camper and hostess, Sharon will be remembered by all who knew her as a strong woman of faith, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, Nana, sister, aunt, and friend. Incredibly social, she filled life with joy, laughter, smiles, and cookies. Sharon’s greatest joy was her Catholic faith and her family, and she relished the peaceful moments holding her sweet grandbabies.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eugene, their 5 children: son Peter (Kristin), grandsons Matthew, Michael, Luke, Andrew; son Mark (Vicki), grandsons Jacob (Sara), Samuel (Samantha) and great grandson Judah, granddaughter Ellison, and grandson Corbin; son John (Barbara), grandson Zachary, granddaughter Julianna (Domi) a great granddaughter due in November, grandsons Joseph, Elijah, granddaughters Colette, Angela, Therese; son Thomas (Cristin), grandson Theodore, granddaughters Sophie, Francine, Zoe; and daughter Ann Walker (Tyson), granddaughter Miriam, grandsons Josiah, Tobias, Ezekiel, Titus, Joseph; along with her three siblings, Don Becker (Joanne), Carole Peck (Frank), and Tom Becker (Sharon).
