Born on October 29, 1971, in Great Bend, Kansas, Joel was the beloved son of Barbara and Milo Cushman. The family later moved to Casper, Wyoming, where Joel spent his formative years. He attended St. Anthony's School, East Junior High, and graduated from Kelly Walsh High School, where he excelled as an athlete in football and basketball. Throughout his life, Joel was an exceptional and prolific writer. He had a deep love for science fiction, particularly Stephen King novels, which he could quote with ease. Joel will forever be remembered for his gregarious, fun nature and his million-dollar smile.

His compassionate nature and genuine love for people shone through as he hosted events for seniors under his care. His career later evolved into providing care for special needs individuals.
Joel was deeply devoted to his faith, continuously finding solace and strength in his relationship with God. His spiritual journey was an essential part of his life, helping him persevere through life challenges.
Joel is survived by his devoted wife Gloria Richardson (née Carrillo) and his sweet pup Coco, both who miss him every day.
