David Lewis Snook, 77, passed away on October 19, 2024, in Castle Pines, Colorado (natural causes). Born on May 25, 1947, David was a steadfast and patient man, known for his devotion as a husband, father, teacher, and a respected Veteran of the United States Army in the Iowa National Guard. 

 

David's journey began in Newton, Iowa, graduating from Newton Senior High in 1965. While pursuing a degree in history from the University of Northern Iowa, he and Marcia married in August of 1968. After completing his undergraduate degree, David enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve. Upon completion of basic combat training, he furthered his education by achieving a Master of Arts in 1971, and ultimately a PhD from the University of Iowa in 2017. 

 

His professional life was marked by a distinguished career in education within the Waterloo Public School System, where he left a lasting impact on many students. Concurrently, David served in the Iowa National Guard, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4), a testament to his leadership and dedication. 

 

Preceded in death by his beloved wife Marcia Snook, his mother Dorris Snook, and father Darold Snook, David's legacy continues through his family. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Covington, brother, Mark Snook, and his sons Warren and Jeremy Snook, along with Jeremy’s wife Beth and their three children, Cooper, Brigid, & Ashlyn. 

 

A graveside memorial service will be held at Palo Alto Cemetery (4968 Hwy S74 S, Newton, IA 50208) on Saturday, November 9th, 2024, at 11 am, followed by a reception & lunch at Wallace Funeral Home (1115 E 19th St N, Newton, IA 50208) at 12 pm. David's life was a beacon of dedication and service, leaving indelible marks on both his family and the many lives he touched through his professional and military service.
