Thomas L. Weaver, 88, passed away October 12th, 2024, with his loving family at his side. Thomas Lee Weaver was born in Brewster, MN on April 26th, 1936, to Henry and Arlois Weaver. Tom spent his childhood years in Brewster until he graduated from Brewster High School, upon which he enrolled in the engineering program at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. In September 1957 Tom married Myrna Everson in Brewster, MN. After Tom and Myrna wed Tom continued his studies and graduated from SDSU with a degree in electrical engineering.
After attaining his engineering degree Tom began his professional career with McDonnell Corporation as an engineer, based first in St. Charles, Missouri and later in Lancaster, CA. Always a man with a deep devotion to both community and public service, Tom answered the call to contribute his knowledge and leadership skills by transitioning to engineering roles in the federal government.
In 1961 Tom and his young bride and children moved to Huron, SD where Tom began his public sector career with the Bureau of Reclamation. After several years at the Bureau Tom pursued advancement in his career by taking a position in the Billings, MT office. Billings became “home” for Tom and his family for nearly 20 years, a time filled with family adventures, friends, job growth and advancement, and countless fond memories and stories of their life in Big Sky Country.
With his time of career growth and advancement while in Billings, Tom jumped into an emerging opportunity and challenge when a new agency, the Western Area Power Administration (later to become part of the US Department of Energy) was created and formed. Tom was on WAPA’s pioneering management team and was part of a talented group of people who helped build, shape, nurture, and evolve the new agency. He was fondly known to his family as “Our Papa with WAPA” based on both his early and later enduring career years with Western Area Power Administration.
As the Western Area Power Administration expanded and grew Tom again advanced his career by taking on a new management role based in Lakewood, CO. Tom, Myrna, and his family moved from Billings to Lakewood in 1978. It would be a memorable, exciting, and on occasion a challenging year with the relocation to the Denver area. Tom and Myrna found and purchased their home in Lakewood on Myrna’s 40th birthday. This home would become their long-term home and residence for the next 44 years. It was truly an inviting and warm home that hosted countless holidays, occasions, and meals for both family and friends. It was the hub for so many family activities, gatherings, and celebrations over the years.
Tom and Myrna traveled extensively for both work and for pleasure, visiting numerous foreign countries and interesting places around the world. China, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and Austria were among some of their travel highlights. One of Tom’s and Myrna’s favorite places was Paris. They were fortunate to spend several memorable wedding anniversaries in Paris over the years. Even with the world travels, Tom spent valued time over the years enjoying numerous family-focused trips to many places in the United States that generated so much love and everlasting and enduring memories.
Tom will be remembered as a man of strong conviction and a deep moral compass, a man of abiding faith, a man of great generosity and great kindness, a man who strived to serve his community, his neighbors, his fellow church congregation members, his many friends, and – of course – his family. He will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, a friend to many, a lifelong active member of the Presbyterian church, and a pillar of his church, Green Mountain Presbyterian Church in Lakewood. Tom’s light and presence deeply touched so many people throughout his life. He will be remembered and greatly missed.
Tom Weaver was preceded in death by his beloved wife Myrna, his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and his grandson Daniel Weaver. He is survived by his three children: Liz Snodgrass (and longtime companion Mitch) of Lakewood, CO; Lori (Mark) Sneddon of Bismarck, ND; and Robert (Carrie) Weaver of Aurora, CO. He is survived as well by eight grandchildren Charles (Krista) and Christopher (Melissa) Snodgrass; Owen (Megan) Sneddon, Kiersten (Corey) Small, Lauren (Anthony) Bren; Robert T. II (Ronnie), Erik (Savina), and Erin Weaver; as well by Tom’s nine great?grandchildren, a brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and many nephews and nieces. Tom will be missed and remembered by so many close lifelong friends, church members, neighbors, coworkers, former employees, and by all whom Tom’s light radiated and touched during his 88 years of life.
A celebration of life service and interment will be observed on Friday November 1, 2024, at 11 AM at Green Mountain Presbyterian Church, 12900 W Alameda Pkwy, Lakewood, CO 80228. In leu of flowers donations should be made to Green Mountain Presbyterian Church
