Forever In Our Hearts

Garry Purdy, age 54, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida following a series of medical challenges.  He was born March 5, 1970, in Plainfield, NJ to Richard “Dick” Purdy (deceased) and Marie (Schmidt) Purdy.  He was a 1988 graduate of Bridgewater Raritan High School East.  He worked in a variety of exciting positions at locations that included the Sands Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, and other journeys that took him around the country, always with a great story to be told.

Garry truly lived life to the fullest through thrilling adventures with incredible friends he made locally while always putting the needs of others as a priority. Even after moving to Florida in the 1990’s, Garry maintained relationships with many of his life-long friends including building special bonds with Johnny Schuler, son of the late John Schuler.

Garry was always able to reach people in a deep and positive way through his unwavering caring for others and incredible jovial attitude that was his undeniable trademark. He is survived by his mother, Marie Purdy of Melbourne, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg Purdy and Amy (Corderman) Purdy of Wrightsville Beach, NC; a sister, Donna Purdy of Indialantic, FL; and nephews Devin Wade of Melbourne, FL and Nicholas Purdy of Wrightsville Beach, NC.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Garry touched are invited to a Celebration of Life at Intracoastal Brewing Company, 652 W Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL from 4 p.m-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat.  A graveside service will be held at West Lodi Cemetery, Lodi, NY at a later date to honor his wishes to be laid to rest next to his father and at Seneca Lake where so many memories of friends and family were made at the family cottage since his earliest childhood days.

In lieu of flowers and as a tribute to Garry in recognition of the care he provided for his late father who suffered from MS, donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society are suggested.  The direct link to his page is
