David W. Sutton, age 82, of Lexington passed away unexpectedly on November 1st. He was born September 15, 1942, in Fort Wayne, IN to the late James and Juanita (Jump) Sutton. David was married to his high school sweetheart, Mary Alice (Fox) Sutton for 57 years.  He served four years in the Air Force and thirty years with the Indiana Air National Guard 122nd Fighter Wing. 

He enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams as well as supporting all their other activities including dance, theatre, golf, and prom dress shopping. David was a volunteer in the community including at the Cedar Canyons Fire Dept. in Leo, IN.  Upon retirement from the Guard, he and Mary Alice moved to Lexington to work for the University of Kentucky, the last twenty years with the athletic dept. David was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel since March 2006. He was a past member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Richmond where he was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council #12852 and 4th Degree Assembly 3024. Most recently he was a parishioner at Pax Christi, Lexington, since moving from Richmond in 2016.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Melissa (Frank) Rife and Kathleen (Christopher) Schipper all of Fort Wayne, and Elizabeth (Mark) Yanik of Lexington; grandchildren David Rife, Maria (James) Corkran, Joshua (Jennifer) Schipper, Joseph Schipper, and Tony Yanik; sisters Peggy Dunn, Candy DeCamp, and Beth (Daniel) White; and brothers-in-law Ed (Mary) Fox and Jim (Jan) Reams. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister Susan Reams and brothers-in-law Skyler DeCamp and Ron Stewart. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 from 5 until 8pm at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, 10:30am at Pax Christi Catholic Church, Lexington. Burial with military honors will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or Military Missions 570 Delzan Place Ste 10, Lexington, KY 40503
