Maria V Hernandez, age 86, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on November 16, 2024. She was born on August 28, 1938 to Margarito Valdez and Mercedes Fuentes in Robs Town, Texas. Maria spent most of her time playing bingo, yard selling, and taking many road trips to go gambling. Playing bingo was one of her favorite ways to spend her time, as she got to spend it hanging out with many many friends and family members. These are some of the most cherished memories her family will hold dear to their hearts. Maria was extremely caring and always expressed her truest self to people. She always put a smile on someone’s face and made them feel loved. Her family will always admire her for welcoming everyone with open arms and being the rock of the family.

Maria met the love of her life Luis De Dios Hernandez, also known as Palas, to friends and family in 1955. They spent 69 years together and are now finally reunited after spending 2 long years apart after Palas passed in 2022. Maria and Palas spent a majority of their time yard selling, dancing, and enjoying their quality time together.

Maria is survived by her children: Yolanda Valdez, Nancy Hernandez Cuevas (Gabriel), Rey Hernandez, Maria “Gorda” Hernandez, Gloria “Neny” Hernandez; 22 grandchildren, roughly 62 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Maria was proceeded in death by her parents Margarito and Mercedes, the love of her life Luis “Palas” Hernandez, son Luis Jr. “Muca” Hernandez, and her daughter Sista Hernandez. As well as 7 grand-babies.

A message from the family:

“Our hearts are comforted in knowing that she has been healed and reunited with the love of her life, her son, daughter, and parents.”

A viewing will be held for the public at Flahiff Funeral Chapel on Tuesday the 26th of November at 6-8pm; rosary recital at 7:00pm. A funeral mass service will be celebrated the next morning on Wednesday the 27th at Our Lady of the Valley in Caldwell at 10am with a burial at Canyon Hill Cemetery to follow.
