Bonnie Jeanne Johns
April 29th, 1933 - October 31st, 2024
Bonnie Jeanne Johns of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on October 31, 2024 after a long fulfilling life.
Bonnie was born on April 29th to Ivan and Dorothy Allum in Toledo, Ohio. She was Senior Class Vice President and graduated from Mesa High School in 1951. At Mesa High she was an accomplished athlete and school mascot. She was so good at being the Jackrabbit mascot that J.C. Penney's asked her to be their Easter Bunny!
Bonnie continued excelling in sports and became the 2nd baseman for the Phoenix Ramblers, competing in 5 World Championships and inducted into the Arizona Softball Hall of Fame. After one of these games she met the love of her life Elmer Johns of Phoenix, Arizona.
Bonnie married Elmer in 1957, during their 67 year marriage they had three children; Nancy, Michael and Karen.
She attended Arizona State University and was the bookkeeper for the Community Cotton Gin, and Arizona State University. Retiring in 1995.
Bonnie's life was filled with worldwide travel, wonderful family, friends, and the girls she coached in summer softball league.
Bonnie is predeceased by her parents Ivan and Dorothy, her sisters JoAnn and Marilyn, and her daughter Nancy.
She is survived by her husband Elmer Johns, her children Michael Johns and Karen (Johns) Barker, her grandchildren; Chelsea (Barker) Caples, and Sydney Barker, great-grandchildren Kiera Caples and Lexi Caples.
A special thank you to the caring staff of Bella Vista Senior Living and Stoneridge Hospice.
Services will be held at Meldrum Mortuary on November 26 at 11am.
