Mass will be followed by a brief memorial slide presentation and sharing of memories and then a reception with a light lunch will be served in the Church Fellowship Hall. Private inurnment will be held in the spring.

Irene’s legacy is one of compassion for all and a deep awe of all creation.          A woman, “ahead-of-her time,” Irene’s open-heart, as well as her open and curious mind, was extended to all and is reflected in the beautiful diversity of those who morn her loss and celebrate her life. Irene especially loved nature in the form of plants, trees, and birds. After caring for her severely disabled son, Bill, at home with the family for over 30 years, Irene worked with her husband Don to help establish and volunteer at the Marklund Home for Children and Young Adults.  After Bill’s passing in 2004, Irene began to volunteer at the Chicago Botanical Gardens, helping to initiate the Enabling Gardens for Horticultural Therapy where she was honored with the prestigious “2005 Volunteer of the Year” award.  She attended classes and received “Master Gardener” designation from the Illinois State Extension Society and served for years at the Chicago Botanical Gardens Plant Information Service where she met and became life-long friends with her dear gardening colleague, Paula Twilling (and husband) David Cherry of Evanston, IL.  In May of 2017, Irene moved from her home of 65 years in Northbrook, IL to the Denver area to live with her daughter, Alice, who has enjoyed her company and companionship for the last 7 years of her life.
