"Stories have to be told or they die, and when they die, we can't remember who we are or why we're here".
Donna Jeremias Brummett, 80, of Kingsport, TN passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. She was born February 8, 1944, in Washington, GA to the late Mary Ruth Palmer Jeremias and Charles George Jeremias, and was the widow of the late Terry Wayne Brummett.
Donna met her future husband when she was just 14. They were high school sweethearts, dating for several years before marrying in 1964. Terry and Donna had a wonderful 54 years together before he passed; their love was clearly apparent to all who knew them.
While working as Assistant Director of Academic Affairs with Newberry College, Donna decided to go back to school. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and often told the story of how she planned her own graduation ceremony in 1984. After obtaining this degree, Donna became a Parole Agent with the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole & Pardon Services.
Donna was an independent, strong-willed woman with a heart of gold. She was outgoing, acting in plays with Newberry Community Players and participating in pageants. She loved the outdoors and traveling, going on trips to Germany, Greece, Scotland, and London, and meticulously journaled about her adventures. Donna also had a love for family history and genealogy and contributed greatly to the database “Find a Grave” in her retirement. More than anything else, she loved her family dearly.
She is survived by her children, Tony Brummett and Terna Rushing (Mike); grandchildren, Breton Victoria Strehl (Felix), Hannah Elizabeth Brummett, Zachary McClain Brummett (Torrie), and Jacob Palmer Brummett; great-grandchildren, Axl Gunther Brummett and Madeline McClain Brummett; and brother, Charles “Chuck” Jeremias. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Nicolas Alexander Huntley.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Carter Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport with Pastor Donnie Brannen officiating. Special music will be provided by CrossWise. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:00 am.
