James Earl Barnes, 64, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 18, 1960, James lived a life full of service, dedication, and love for his family and community.

James served his country with honor in the United States Army for over 20 years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG) before his retirement. His commitment to duty and his country was unwavering, and his military career shaped the foundation of his character. After retiring from the Army, James continued to work diligently, spending over 20 years as a loader and operator at a sand plant until his second retirement.

A man of many passions, James loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating, often spending time surrounded by nature with his friends and family. His greatest joy, however, was being with his loved ones. He married Iris G. Herbst on February 14, 1982, and together they built a strong, loving family.

James is survived by his wife, Iris G. Barnes; his son, Daniel Barnes; daughter-in-law, Georgette Barnes-Gutierrez; his beloved grandson, Daniel Jorge Barnes-Gutierrez; and granddaughter, Mary D. Barnes-Gutierrez. He is also survived by his brothers, Sterling Barnes and Ray Barnes.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary D. Barnes, and his son, James Earl Barnes Jr.

A committal service with full Army honors will be held at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM.

James will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his country, and the many people whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and service that will never be forgotten.
