Richard Anthony Garcia
July 6th, 1935 - December 6th, 2024
RICHARD ANTHONY GARCIA was born July 6, 1935, and passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, at the age of 89. Born in Oakland, California, his family moved to Chico in 1940s.
Richard was truly a special person. He was genuinely kind and generous to family and friends, and quick to offer a helping hand to a neighbor in any circumstance. He had a quick wit and an endearing knack for delivering puns with a sly smile and a sparkle in his eye.
Richard was as patriotic as they come. He was a history buff and aviation enthusiast. His sense of duty and acts of service started early in life. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a young teenager. Over the years, he participated in many community service activities and was a consistent supporter of local charities and public servants. In his 70s he became an active member of Flotilla 08-39 of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. His duties initially included vessel safety checks at Lake Oroville. In his 80s, he branched out to food services where he cooked for active-duty members during readiness training and Naval Fleet Week.
Richard loved the company of others, adventure, and going places. Throughout his long life, he enjoyed dancing, boating, cycling, hiking, camping, travelling, and social events with the Sierra Club, Chico Velo, Good Sams, and SIR.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, Paul and Ruby Garcia, and his sister, Rochelle “Dolly”. He will be forever loved and dearly missed by his nieces and nephew, Julie Wasserman (Denn), Christine Denn, and Mark Denn.
