Edith Maria Howard
January 19th, 1944 - August 26th, 2024
Edith Maria Howard (née Wöhner), born in Nürnberg, Germany on January 19, 1944, passed away on August 26, 2024, in The Villages, Florida. Edith’s life was marked by resilience, love, and dedication to her family and friends. Edith immigrated to the United States in 1964, embarking on a journey that would define her remarkable life. She married Tom Oye in California where they lived briefly before moving to Ohio. In 1965, they welcomed beloved daughter Rhonda. The family moved to New Mexico and eventually settled in Texas. Although Edith and Tom eventually parted ways, they both shared the joy of raising their daughter. Edith met Wilson Howard in Texas in 1982, and they were married in 1984, with their daughters, Sony and Rhonda by their side. Their marriage was a partnership built on love, shared adventures, and mutual devotion. This past November would have marked their 40th wedding anniversary, a milestone that speaks to their enduring bond. In 1992, Edith proudly became a U.S. citizen, solidifying her connection to the country she had grown to love. A few years later, Edith and Wilson relocated to New Jersey before retiring to the warmth and sunshine of Florida in 2005. Edith will be remembered for her strength, her deep love for family, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her legacy lives on through her cherished daughter, Rhonda, her devoted husband, Wilson, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. Edith is survived by her husband, Wilson Howard; daughters Rhonda Oye (of Washington, D.C.) and Sony Howard (of West Palm Beach, FL); her granddaughter Christina Bacon, and two sisters, Otti Pshörer and Karin Trankweilder (both of Nürnberg, Germany), as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents Rudi and Maria Wöhner, and her sisters Anni Krompolcas and Resi Reitz. A Celebration of Life for Edith will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2pm in the Hiers-Baxley Life Event Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Edith’s memory will remain a source of inspiration and love for all who were privileged to know her.
