Teruko Shadlow
October 31st, 1927 - December 11th, 2024
Teruko (Konishi) Shadlow, 97, passed away peacefully at her residence in Tacoma, Washington on December 11, 2024. She was born October 31, 1927 in Otsu, Shiga-ken, Japan. Her parents were Tokujiro and Tatsu Konishi. Teruko married Joseph Franklin Shadlow on April 30, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan. She followed his U.S. Army travels to Fort Ord, California; back to Japan; and permanently to Tacoma, Washington in 1959. Teruko and Joseph were married 42 years until Joseph’s death in 1996. She enjoyed playing with her children and grandchildren. Other activities included picnicking; crocheting; singing Japanese songs; and watching Japanese movies and television programs. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Joseph and brother Sozaburo Konishi. Teruko was survived by her daughter Karen Yoko Griffiths; sons, Robert Kiyoshi Shadlow and his wife Junee’; Roger Kenji Shadlow and his wife Helene; Norman Takashi Shadlow and his wife Ty; Daniel Toshio Shadlow and his wife Debbie; and Ronald Akira Shadlow. In addition, she is survived her brothers Tatsuo Yamamoto and Norikazu Konishi and their spouses in Japan. Teruko is survived by 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild plus numerous nieces and nephews.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held, Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Courtyard Marriot Seattle Federal Way, 31910 Gateway Center Blvd S, Federal Way, WA 98003.
In addition, a graveside memorial service will be held in July 2025 at Tahoma National Cemetery.
