Shirley Ann Hyde Turner passed in to the Kingdom of Heaven on December 18th, 2024.  A native of Florida, Shirley Ann was born in Lakeland, FL to Bolivar Ferrell Hyde Jr. and Mary Floy Streater. She graduated from Lakeland High School in 1953 where she was President of her sophomore class and a cheerleader. Shirley Ann was a proud “Florida Gator” and active in the Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Florida where she graduated in 1957. While attending UF Shirley met her future husband, and love of her life Richard (Dick) Turner. Shirley Ann and Dick were married on December 27th, 1957 in Lakeland, Fl, and eventually settled in Bradenton, Fl. in 1961. In her newfound home Shirley Ann developed lifelong friendships, volunteered in the community and became involved in her church, clubs and her children’s school activities. Known for a radiant smile and out-going personality, Shirley Ann was a natural fit contributing her time and talents to the Service Club of Manatee County, Entre Nous, and the Saint Stephen’s Parents Association. She was also actively involved in the Collectors Group with a shared interest in antiques, and her monthly Book Club group.

She was a supportive partner to Dick as he pursued his career in banking, and together they welcomed three sons; Rick, Jay, and Brian. Shirley Ann was the embodiment of southern style and charm hosting and entertaining numerous events at her home. An avid reader, she also loved to cook and was known for her interior decorating skills and knowledge of antiques. She and Dick enjoyed spending their summers with family in the mountains of North Carolina and on Lake Rabun in Georgia where they remain current members of the Lake Rabun Association. They spent many pleasurable boat trips with friends and family over the years fishing and snorkeling in the Bahamas and Florida Keys. Over their lifetime they travelled to many of the countries of Europe, and particularly enjoyed spending time in the countries of the UK. Most notably, Scotland where Shirley Ann preserved a long and proud ancestral heritage with ties to the Highland clans of both Buchanan and MacRae.

Shirley Ann had a kind and generous spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will continue to reside in our hearts. She is survived by her husband of 67-years, Richard E. Turner, Sr., sons Richard E. Turner, Jr., Jay F. Turner, and Brian H. Turner, daughters-in-law Meredith Turner, Lori Turner and Becky Turner, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 4030 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL on Monday, December 23rd at 11:00 am followed by a reception to be held at the Bradenton Yacht Club, 4307 13th Street West, Palmetto, FL. Interment will be private.
