In Loving Memory

Annette (Anne) Yarbrough Graham, 81, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away December 19, 2024 at Agape House of Lexington in Lexington, South Carolina. She was born on October 28, 1943 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Richard Tillman Yarbrough and Jeanette Weaver Yarbrough.

Anne is survived by her children, Stacey Timmerman (John) and Richard Graham (Aimee). Her grandchildren were her pride and joy - Emily Hull (James), Mallory Graham, Patrick Timmerman and Alec Graham.  She is also survived by her sister, Jean McDowell and nieces Erin Coleman and Sarah McDowell 4 grandnephews and a grandniece.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Gordon Crowner Graham, her husband of 47 years.

Anne was a self-professed “army brat” having lived in Germany from 1957 to 1960. She attended Nurnberg American High School during that time. One of her favorite stories to tell was of meeting Elvis Pressley at a movie theater in Grafenwoehr, Germany in March of 1957.

After returning to the US, Anne attended Fayetteville High School and graduated in 1961. After high school she attended Columbia Commercial College and received a certificate in secretarial studies.  She worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist at the “old Columbia Hospital” and Baptist Hospital as well as for numerous doctor offices in Columbia.

She met Gordon in 1962 when he visited his parents who lived next door to her family. They met when he learned she typed for a living, and he needed assistance passing a typing class. He told her that if he made an A in the class, he would take her out for a steak dinner. Weeks later he asked her when she wanted to go out and celebrate. She later learned he had only made a B in the class. They dated for a year and Gordon proposed. She wasn’t quite ready to get married, so they dated another year. When he proposed a second time she said yes.

When her children entered elementary school, she became a teachers aid at Crayton Middle School working with both the elementary classes and in the middle school hearing impaired classes. As the children moved on to middle school she resumed medical transcription work. This remained her career until 2002 when she retired in order to become a full-time grandma.

Anne bravely and gracefully, with a sense of humor and a bit of sarcasm, fought breast cancer in 2010 and again in 2021. She will be missed terribly by her family and many friends.

A graveside service was held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at 3 PM with Reverend Mark Herring, officiating.
