Mark James Smith, 65, of Charlotte, NC, passed away after a brief illness at CMC Main on December 24, 2024, with his family by his side. Mark was a native Charlottean. He was born at Mercy Hospital, graduated from Myers Park High School and returned to Charlotte after obtaining his degree in economics from North Carolina State University. Mark was the first of three children born to John Paul and Marybeth Smith. Mark worked over 40 years in the construction industry, specializing in commercial drywall. He spent the majority of his career working for B&B Contracting, with his tenure there beginning right after college. Mark volunteered many weekends coaching recreational youth soccer and leading Boy Scout troops, roles in which he touched many lives and made many memories with his children. He was an avid trout fisherman, a trophied clay shooter, and never missed a chance to watch any NC State game. He was also an active parishioner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and spent a number of years as an usher.

Mark is survived by his wife, Deborah Smith; children, Chelsea Smith (Erika) and Sean Smith (Katie); mother, Marybeth Smith; sister Ann Marie Greeson (Ken) and many other loved ones. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsey Smith; father, John Paul Smith; and brother, Andy Smith.
